The traditional
painting contests, which are organized by Private Istanbul
College every year, provide the children with the opportunity to
show their talents in the fields of arts. The contests are open
to everyone but the students of Private Istanbul College, and
the panel is composed of artists, sculptors, and academicians
from fine arts faculties.
Havva Tapa, director of the school, discussed the educational
policy of the school which aims to provide students with
cultural infrastructure as well as good education, and said: "We
do not only raise our students in the academical fields. We
believe that the social development in a society can only be
assessed with the artists it possesses, and we aim to raise a
generation who are at peace with arts. Future generations should
not only be competent academically, but also be interested in
the fields of arts which is essential for becoming social
individuals. We first provide our children with wide
opportunities to help them identify their trends or talents, and
then we focus on those talents and improve them.
Thus, the child explores different methods of expressing himself.
We therefore organized the club activities in such a way that
they are in line with the requests of as much student as
possible. In addition to English drama, web design, music,
painting, and sculpture workshops, we also prepared an animation
club with the participation of Norwegian sculptor Marius DAHL.
The children first built a city including the roads and the
apartments, and then they shot their own film with the
characters they created. The first term was about preparations,
and the film was shot in the second term, which aroused the
interest of other students. Now, our only concern is that all
the students will be willing to join the animation club next
year, and other clubs will be abandoned.”
